# Payouts

> Sending money out.

## Send to an account

**1. Resolve the account name**

`POST /merchant/name-enquiry` — confirm the name matches who you intend to pay.

**2. Initiate**

`POST /transfer/payout` with a stable merchant reference. See
[Idempotency](https://docs.getflick.co/guides/idempotency.md).

**3. Confirm**

`GET /transfer/verify/{id}`, or wait for the `transfer.success` webhook.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Name enquiry is the only check between you and an irreversible transfer to the
> wrong account. Do not skip it, and surface the resolved name to whoever approves
> the payout.

## A payout is not final on success

`transfer.refund` can arrive days later if the beneficiary bank reverses it. Keep a
payout reversible in your own ledger until you reconcile.
